I know this is completely off-topic (any topic!), but I'm hoping Fred will let this stay here, as it will interest those following out HV testing exploits.
Anyway, we have a new diversion to keep us busy between flight tests. Ben took a Razor scooter, gutted it and then made a special gearbox/mount for a Hacker C50-20XL I had laying around. We’re using a 77-3O Heli controller, but we’ll switch this to a non-heli version, as we can’t seem to disable the slow-start feature.
For control, Ben used an Astro servo tester and modified the twist grip to do the “knob” function. We added a UBEC and then Ben remote mounted the display portion of a Whattmeter on the handlebars, to provide “instruments”. Finally, we crammed 8s6p worth of gen 2s inside. The power is ungodly! Very scary! No idea what the top speed is because I’m afraid to give it more than about ¼ throttle. Something well north of 20 MPH for sure! It will pop “wheelies” even with me on it! Ben was climbing up hills and it sounded like he was on a dirt bike! Riding across our large flying field as the sun was setting, it looked like a Roadrunner cartoon!
